When we were referred to Mid Iowa, I was initally scared, I don't know if I was terrified of what they may tell me or what but I hesitated to make the appointment. I remember going to Wal-Mart one night late with Kelly, we were living in Johnston in a town home that would not sell (had been on the market for over 2 years), and our vaccum wasn't working well. After looking at the vaccums, Kelly told me we should wait to buy a new one, and for some reason, I broke down. I told Kelly I was tired of waiting, waiting for the house to sell, waiting for a baby, and now a vaccum. I know this makes me sound like a nut job, but I think it was just starting to hit me that if I wanted to pursue our options, I needed to take action. Needless to say I made an appointment the following day.
The appointment was with Dr. Cooper. He is an extraordinarily nice man. He likes to draw pictures and graphs while he explains things. He gave us many different roads that we may travel depending on lab test and trial and error.
In January of 2011 we went back on the clomid for a month and also added the insemination process. This process includes peeing on a stick which indicates if you are ovulating by the LH surge in your urine. When you have a positive surge they call you into the office for the procedure. Kelly has to "drop off a sample" 1 hour prior to the procedure. This is where they "clean", count, and test the sperm for speed. Once this is complete you go into the office where you lie on a table, enter a catheter into your uterus, past your cervix, and insert the sperm into the catheter. It is a very quick procedure.
Needless to say I started my cycle and went on to the next month.
Choosing a fertility clinic is a very important stage in any couple's life.
